Extended Taps & Twisties

Twisted Escapade 2025 ...

We are planning something…

What is the Twisted Escapade?

We at the Twisted Taps Collective, well, we love to ride. That’s why, instead of a rally, we’ve created an event that we call the “Twisted Escapade.” This is not a rally, but, like our Taps and Twisties events, all two and three wheel vehicles are welcome.

Twisted Escapade takes place over a weekend every year.  We try to schedule the weekend around what else is going on in the year and the local rally schedule.  This usually lands in August or October.  Location is also variable, but is always unique and a decent day’s ride from our home base of South Central PA.  Some of our past adventures found us at the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon and Blackwater Falls in West Virginia.

Does this mean we’ll never host a rally?  No, no it doesn’t.  But, for now, this is our big non-rally riding event of the year.

Past Extended Taps and Twisties

2024 was a great extended weekend with prepared food and camping.  The Collective hauled a trailer to this event and fed breakfast to the attendees each morning.  This Twisted Escapade was the best attended to date with friends coming from many states away to ride and camp with us.

Friday we rode to Hancock, MD where we encountered a hoard of Harley Davidson riders heading to “East Coast Sturgis”.  We however, had our own campsite 9 miles away at Locust Post Brewing.  The owners were great hosts and provided us access to indoor plumbing and hot showers.  There was also live music and cold beer at the brewery.

Saturday we encountered some rain, but we kept riding to Berkeley Springs as soon as the worst of it passed.  We patched two new members into our group at a special ceremony around the campfire!  We had a beer tent, a food tent, grills, and hot coffee.

Sunday was an incredible ride home.  We stopped for lunch at Gearhouse Brewing, Chamberburg, PA before returning home.

2023 was a bit different than 2022.  This year, we opted for a campground and decided upon the absolutely beautiful region of Blackwater Falls State Park in West Virginia.  Additionally, we decided to go for an August date and that did not dissapoint.  We had a beautiful ride from Central PA through the highlands with lunch in Bedford before dropping down to Maryland and West Virginia.  After arriving, we stocked the campground with beverages, set up camp, and convened upon Hellbender Burritos in Davis, WV for dinner.

Saturday brought a beautiful loop through some of the most beautiful mountains of northern West Virginia.  We lunched in Elkins at an Italian restaurant before heading over to Big Timbers Brewing and then back to the campground.  After convening again, we decended upon the town of Thomas, wandered the restaurants, and some of us headed to the iconic Purple Fiddle for some live folk before lighting up some bonfires at the campground.

Sunday brought a quick highway jaunt into Wardensville for lunch and a shoot up Route 11 back to Pennsylvania.

In October 2022, we convened upon an AirBnb in Westfield, Pennsylvania – just north of the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon.  After a harrowing ride up the ridges of Pennsylvania with a great lunch at Rusty Rail Brewing, we settled into the house and got an early night to prepare for the next day’s ride.  On Saturday, we logged 250 miles around the Pennsylvanian Wildnerness and the PA Grand Canyon.  Beauty was found everywhere, as were twisties and beautiful roads.  The weather held up with a bit of October chill.  After a beautiful ride, we settled back in to a delicious dinner at the house.  Sunday, we lunched in Williamsport at Bullfrog Brewing before chasing the highway back down to the Harrisburg area.
